The ColourSound Bio

On an unusually hot May afternoon in the college town of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Sean Hieter and Doug Batt first met on a rocky cliff overlooking a water hole forty feet below. They could not have possibly known, at the time, that they soon would leap together into the uncertain depths of the musical sea. Shortly after meeting they formed a band called Velvet Elvis, which rocked the bar scene and house parties of northeastern Pennsylvania for four years.

Graduation ended the band, but not the friendship. Sean and Doug were soon reunited in the Allentown, PA based band, Motherwell. Part of a dynamic local music scene in the late 1990s, Motherwell provided the perfect soundtrack for the uncertain post-college life in the gritty, economically struggling area. The band packed crowds into beer-soaked bars, produced three albums, won several local awards and generated much interest from the music industry before calling it quits in 2003.

As Sean and Doug's music continued to evolve, they chose a new musical direction and formed the ColourSound in 2004. Bass player, Leni, and drummer, Pat Wilson, completed the band. Each of the four members of the ColourSound had been songwriters on their own, so when they blended together they found their new material contained more diversity with layers of melodic, groovy rhythms. They soon received national attention when AMC chose their song, Good for Life, for a commercial that ran during the summer of 2006. This triggered interest both nationally and across the pond, and their track, The Doctor's In, was used in a promo for The Hustle a BBC television production that concurrently aired in the US.

Due to their diverse individual talents, the band merges their music with cutting-edge graphic arts, an aggressive attitude, high-end fashion, and poetic lyrics. While not on stage, Pat is a photographer and an artist. Leni is a money manager for a major bank in New York City. Sean runs a Men's Designer-Sportswear line in the city as well, and Doug teaches Modern Literature and Composition in the suburbs.

Over the past three years, the ColourSound has built a strong fan base in New York and has enjoyed residency at Arlene's Grocery. Their look (Carnaby Street London meets 1800's military) and presence made them the obvious choice as entertainment for the Robert Graham launch party during New York's Fashion Week (Spring 2007). They have recently met with an agent at William Morris, and have garnered favorable press in Hit Parader and Metal Edge (although they are not metal, the writer happened to catch a performance and really liked their sound).

They will be heading back into the studio in the summer of 07 to continue writing amazing music and gaining media coverage through movies, TV and radio. Without knowing what the future holds, the ColourSound stands poised on the edge of that rocky cliff, ready to plunge into even deeper waters.
